Life
Marina Satti was born in Athens in 1986 and grew up in Heraklion, Crete. Music studies began with the piano and expanded into classical singing and advanced theory. A scholarship took her to Berklee College of Music, where she studied orchestration, production and jazz. This training helps explain the range of her work: she approaches a song as a singer, but also considers how voices, instruments and recorded sounds fit together. Her experience includes the European Jazz Orchestra and vocal work connected with Bobby McFerrin.
In 2016 her arrangement of Κούπες (Cups) brought a traditional song to a new online audience. Μάντισσα (Fortune Teller) followed in 2017. That year she also founded CHÓRES, a female choral ensemble whose work explores Greek musical heritage through contemporary arrangements and collaborations. Her first album, YENNA, appeared in May 2022. In 2023 she released TUCUTUM and made the short documentary Flabouro. In 2024 she represented Greece at Eurovision in Malmö with Ζάρι (Dice), finishing eleventh in the final. These projects connect formal musical study with collective singing, recorded production and performance for a large television audience.
Works

Satti's music asks what can happen when inherited melodies meet a present-day beat. Κούπες (Cups, 2016) is an arrangement of an existing traditional song, rather than a newly written folk song. Μάντισσα (Fortune Teller, 2017) helped establish her own pop direction. The two recordings make a useful comparison: notice how the voice leads, where the rhythm becomes more prominent and how a repeated phrase changes through performance. Her work with CHÓRES develops another possibility, the sound of many female voices sharing and reshaping a repertoire.
YENNA, her debut album of 2022, expands this meeting of musical worlds. Her official Eurovision biography describes Greek, Arabic and Balkan traditions alongside contemporary urban influences. TUCUTUM (2023) explores a connection with Balkan trap. Ζάρι (Dice, 2024) brought the mixture to Eurovision with a team of songwriters and producers; Satti is a credited co-writer, not the song's sole creator. For a Greek learner, the titles themselves offer accessible words: κούπες names cups, μάντισσα a fortune teller, and ζάρι a die. Listening can then move from recognizing a concrete noun to following rhythm, repeated sounds and short phrases without needing to understand every line immediately.
Legacy in Greece today
Satti offers an entry into Greek as it sounds in contemporary music videos and televised performances. Her work also sends listeners back toward traditional singing, showing that a language can carry old melodies and new production at the same time. Watch the official Eurovision performance of Ζάρι, then listen to Κούπες. On the first pass, identify the song title and mark the beat; on the second, write down three Greek words you recognize. Say those words slowly before fitting them to the musical rhythm. Compare a solo voice with CHÓRES to hear how several voices change the clarity of syllables. This is a listening exercise, not a test of complete lyric comprehension.
