Silia Kapsis

Σίλια Καψή

2006 · Sydney · Cyprus

Silia Kapsis combines singing, dancing and screen performance. Raised in Sydney with Greek and Cypriot cultural connections, she represented Cyprus at Eurovision 2024 with Liar. The song is in English, while her Greek interviews provide another way into her work. For a Greek learner, her rehearsal world offers practical verbs for movement, practice and saying what you want to do.

Life

Silia Kapsis was born in Sydney in 2006 and grew up in an Australian performing environment with Greek and Cypriot connections. Her public career includes singing, dance training and screen work. Eurovision's artist biography records her work with the Australian Youth Performing Arts Company and her early songwriting. These details explain a multidisciplinary performer rather than a singer who appeared suddenly for one televised contest. Her training connected vocal work with coordinated movement and performance for a camera.

She released Who Am I? in 2022, after writing it when she was younger. Further singles followed in 2023. Selected to represent Cyprus, she performed Liar at Eurovision in Malmö in 2024, qualified from the first semi-final and finished fifteenth in the Grand Final. What’s Your Name Again followed in March 2025. In a Greek-language interview after the contest, she described the excitement of the large stage and her wish to combine singing with dance. Her career connects Sydney training with performances in Europe, bringing movement, rhythm and live delivery together in a pop setting. Onstage, singing gives her a way to bring both disciplines together.

Works

Who Am I?, No Boys Allowed, Disco Dancer and Night Out trace her early singles from 2022 and 2023. They establish a pop catalogue before Eurovision, with singing and movement presented together. Music videos provide another space for dance alongside the recorded voice. Her first releases already involved moving between songwriting, recording and performance. A single introduces a song on its own; a live appearance places voice, timing and coordinated movement in the same event. The combination is central to the artistic aim she described after Malmö: singing allows her to bring her two performing disciplines together.

Liar, Cyprus's 2024 entry, has music credited to Dimitris Kontopoulos and lyrics to Elke Tiel. Those credits distinguish the performer from the credited songwriters. Its stage presentation combined vocal performance and choreography. The result belongs to one contest edition and does not define all her later work. What's Your Name Again, released in 2025, continues the singles chronology beyond Malmö. Comparing the recorded song, an official live performance and an interview reveals different tasks: musical listening, watching coordinated movement, and following spoken answers. For Greek study, choose the Greek interview for actual speech, then write your own short description of the stage. No song lyrics are needed. Her cultural links to Greece and Cyprus are meaningful, while the language of each source should always be named rather than assumed from nationality.

Legacy in Greece today

Use a short Greek interview with Silia to find θέλω να followed by an action. Write three original goals: θέλω να τραγουδήσω, θέλω να χορέψω, θέλω να μάθω. Then describe a rehearsal in Greek with πρώτα, μετά and ξανά, adding δεξιά or αριστερά for one movement. These are your practice sentences, not copied song lines. Put “English song” beside Liar and “Greek interview” beside the spoken source so the listening task stays clear. The A 2 grade applies to the adapted Modern Greek reading; natural interviews may need pauses and repeated listening. Her combination of singing and dance makes simple action verbs visible as well as audible.
