Εν τω μεταξύ, εν λόγω, τοις εκατό: frozen ancient datives, article included, used daily in legal and journalistic Greek.
Frozen datives
The dative is gone from Modern Greek except inside these blocks, which are learned whole: you recognise them, you do not parse them. Never try to decline them.
- Εν τω μεταξύ, η υπόθεση παραπέμφθηκε στο δικαστήριο.Meanwhile, the case was referred to court.
- Η εν λόγω εταιρεία δεν απάντησε στην πρόσκληση.The company in question did not respond to the invitation.
- Οι εξαγωγές αυξήθηκαν κατά τριάντα τοις εκατό.Exports rose by thirty per cent.
- Εν πάση περιπτώσει, θα έρθω.In any case, I’ll come.

Recognise without imitating
At Γ2 the aim is not to write like a statute but to read one without stumbling. Use two or three — εν τω μεταξύ, εν πάση περιπτώσει — and leave the rest to the register that owns them.

What does «εν τω μεταξύ» mean, and why the strange article?
It means “meanwhile”. «Τω» is the old dative article: the dative is gone from Modern Greek except inside such frozen blocks. Learn them whole and never decline them.
What does «η εν λόγω εταιρεία» mean?
“The company in question”, “the said company”. «Εν λόγω» belongs to administrative and journalistic Greek and sits between the article and the noun: «ο εν λόγω υπάλληλος» (the employee in question).
How do you say “per cent” in Greek?
«Τοις εκατό»: «τριάντα τοις εκατό» (thirty per cent). «Τοις» is a frozen ancient dative plural; in writing you also simply see «30%».
