Learned adverbs and adverbial phrases
Ούτως, εντούτοις, άλλωστε, ενίοτε: the connectors that move a text from narration into argument.
The repertoire
These words do not translate one for one: each marks a precise argumentative move. Placing them correctly is what separates a Γ2 text from a correct but flat Γ1 one.
- Η πρόταση απορρίφθηκε· εντούτοις, η συζήτηση συνεχίστηκε.The proposal was rejected; nevertheless, the discussion continued.
- Άλλωστε, το είχαμε ήδη προβλέψει.Besides, we had already foreseen it.
- Τα στοιχεία είναι σαφή· επομένως, η απόφαση είναι εύκολη.The evidence is clear; therefore the decision is easy.
- Ενίοτε παρατηρούνται καθυστερήσεις στις πληρωμές.Delays in payment are occasionally observed.

The overdose trap
Two or three learned connectors per page are enough. A text with one in every sentence does not read as cultivated — it reads like a machine translation of a circular. Register is signalled, not hammered.
