The future tense
Talking about the future with θα: continuous future (θα γράφω) vs simple future (θα γράψω), plus irregular futures like θα πάω, θα δω, θα πω.
Two futures: aspect
Θα + continuous stem describes a repeated or ongoing action (θα γράφω κάθε μέρα — I will write every day); θα + aorist stem describes a single, complete action (θα γράψω ένα γράμμα — I will write a letter).
- Του χρόνου θα μαθαίνω ελληνικά κάθε Σάββατο.Next year I will be learning Greek every Saturday.
- Αύριο θα σου στείλω το βιβλίο.Tomorrow I will send you the book.
The aorist stem
The simple future uses the same stem as the aorist, with present-tense endings: έγραψα → θα γράψω, μίλησα → θα μιλήσω. If you know the aorist, you already know the future.
- Χθες έγραψα δύο μηνύματα και αύριο θα γράψω το γράμμα.Yesterday I wrote two messages, and tomorrow I’ll write the letter.
- Μίλησα με τον διευθυντή χθες και θα του μιλήσω ξανά τη Δευτέρα.I spoke to the director yesterday and I’ll speak to him again on Monday.
- Θα αγοράσω τα εισιτήρια μόλις ανοίξει η προπώληση.I’ll buy the tickets as soon as the presale opens.

The future of είμαι and έχω
Είμαι and έχω have only one future form: θα είμαι, θα έχω — with no aspect distinction.
- Αύριο θα είμαι στη Γενεύη.Tomorrow I will be in Geneva.
- Την άλλη εβδομάδα θα έχω περισσότερο χρόνο.Next week I will have more time.
Irregular futures
A few very common verbs change their stem in the simple future: πηγαίνω → θα πάω, βλέπω → θα δω, λέω → θα πω, τρώω → θα φάω, πίνω → θα πιω.
- Το καλοκαίρι θα πάμε στην Κρήτη.This summer we will go to Crete.
- Θα σου πω τα νέα αύριο.I’ll tell you the news tomorrow.
The future perfect: θα έχω γράψει
A third future, for what will ALREADY be done by some moment: θα + έχω + the -ει form. Μέχρι τις εννιά θα έχω τελειώσει. Όταν φτάσεις, θα έχουμε φάει. It is the παρακείμενος projected into the future.
- Μέχρι τις εννιά θα έχω τελειώσει τη δουλειά.By nine o’clock I will have finished the work.
- Όταν φτάσεις, θα έχουμε φάει.By the time you arrive, we will have eaten.
- Ως το καλοκαίρι θα έχουν χτίσει το καινούριο σχολείο.By summer they will have built the new school.
