Greek Β2 Writing: Argue an Opinion and Answer an Objection

A convincing opinion text connects a position to reasons and considers a difficulty. This B2-oriented activity asks whether a fictional municipal library should open on some Sundays. The model is a practice argument, not a report about a real library. It does not prescribe an official exam length or scoring rule.

Your writing task

Write for a local discussion page. State your opinion, explain one benefit with an example, acknowledge a practical objection and propose a next step. You may support or oppose Sunday opening. Choose reasons that actually support your position rather than collecting impressive linking words.

Read the model

Follow the argument

The writer supports opening on selected Sundays. People who work on weekdays could use the space more easily; a family choosing books together illustrates the idea. The second paragraph raises staffing and organisation, including employees’ views. The conclusion proposes one Sunday per month for three months, followed by a review of attendance and feedback. The family example is hypothetical, not survey evidence.

Give each connector a job

Κατά τη γνώμη μου introduces the position. Για παράδειγμα introduces an illustration. Ωστόσο signals an objection, while Γι’ αυτό connects the limited trial to the preceding discussion. The conclusion does not merely repeat the opening: it turns a general preference into a proposal that can be evaluated.

Four argument checks

  1. Does the model support opening every Sunday immediately or selected Sundays?
  2. Is the family example a reported survey result or an imagined illustration?
  3. Which objection is discussed: staffing and organisation, or the colour of the building?
  4. What happens after the proposed three-month trial?
Show the answers

1. Selected Sundays. 2. An imagined illustration. 3. Staffing and organisation. 4. The municipality could examine attendance and the views of employees and visitors; permanent opening is not assumed.

Write and revise

Write a reply arguing for a different option, such as longer hours on one weekday. Include one reason, one example and one difficulty your own proposal would face. Underline your position and check that your conclusion answers it. Remove any number presented as a real fact unless you have a source for it. Then replace a vague sentence such as Είναι καλό with a specific explanation of who benefits and how.
