Study Greek 10 Minutes a Day: A Simple Routine

Ten minutes is a time budget, not a promise of fluency. This example helps you decide what to do when you have a short break. Adjust it to your pace and use longer sessions when a task needs them. Choose one small task before opening several lessons.

Choose one outcome

Today’s example is ordering one drink politely. Read: Θα ήθελα έναν καφέ, παρακαλώ. This means “I would like a coffee, please.” The aim is to use this phrase in a short exchange, not to master café vocabulary in one sitting. If the Greek letters are unfamiliar, choose one alphabet activity instead.

A worked ten-minute session

  • Minutes 0–2: read the phrase and its meaning. Notice the stress in καφέ and παρακαλώ. Use the café lesson to read another short exchange.
  • Minutes 2–5: cover the Greek and try to say or write the phrase from the meaning. Uncover it, compare and correct one difference. If you cannot recall it, look again and try a shorter part.
  • Minutes 5–8: add a reply: Ευχαριστώ πολύ. Say the request and the thank-you together. If you change the drink, check the new noun and its form rather than assuming every drink uses έναν.
  • Minutes 8–10: write what you could recall and what you needed to check. Choose one specific starting task for the next session.

Keep a useful note

A useful note says: “I remembered Θα ήθελα but checked the stress in παρακαλώ. Next time I will try the request before looking.” “Study more Greek” gives you no clear starting point. After a missed session, return to the task and check what you remember; this plan does not require a perfect streak.

Check the plan

  1. How many minutes are allocated to the first reading?
  2. What do you do after covering the Greek?
  3. Does changing the drink always leave έναν unchanged?
  4. Does finishing ten minutes prove that you can manage a whole café conversation?
Answers

1. Two. 2. Try to recall the phrase, then compare it with the model. 3. No: check the noun and the form it needs. 4. No: the task practises one request and a thank-you, not every possible question or reply.

Make tomorrow’s plan

Write one task you can check: recognising three letters, recalling one request or answering two questions from a lesson. Keep the next session connected to what you found difficult today. Stop or extend the session deliberately instead of rushing to complete every exercise. Record the result of the task, not only the number of minutes.

Continue with practice

Use the free café lesson for this example, or the alphabet lesson if you are starting to read Greek. Create an account to save your course progress.
