Greek Α2 Writing: Describe Your Day in the Past Tense

A short account of yesterday needs a clear order, not a list of unrelated verbs. This A2-oriented activity uses an invented Sunday outing. Read for what happened, why the plan changed and how the narrator felt. This is learning practice, not an official exam task.

Read the model

Follow the day

Χθες places the account in the past. Το πρωί, μετά, το μεσημέρι and το απόγευμα guide the reader through it. The narrator starts at home, goes to the park with a sister and returns home for lunch. The café is closed, so they buy juice instead. Keep the reason beside the changed action: Γι’ αυτό connects them.

Useful forms in this story

Compare πηγαίνω with πήγα, τρώω with έφαγα and διαβάζω with διάβασα in these examples. Learn the forms with their sentence rather than inventing a single ending for every past verb. Περπατήσαμε and γυρίσαμε describe actions by both people; διάβασα returns to the narrator alone. Ήταν supplies background information about the day and the café. This model is not a complete explanation of Greek past aspect.

Check your understanding

  1. What day is described?
  2. Who went to the park with the narrator?
  3. Why did they buy juice?
  4. Did both people read a book in the afternoon?
Answers and reasons

1. Yesterday, which was Sunday. 2. The narrator’s sister. 3. The café was closed. 4. The text says διάβασα, “I read”; it does not say that the sister read too.

Write your own account

Choose a real or invented day. Write an opening that says when it happened, then three actions in order, one reason or change of plan and a final reaction. Change the place and at least two activities from the model. Check who does each action: use “I” for your own action and “we” only when another person joins you. Read your draft once for time order and once for verb forms. Do not add a new time marker to every sentence if the order is already clear.

The free A2 postcard lesson is a different task: describe where you are on holiday, the weather and everyday activities. It helps practise organising a short message, but does not ask you to reproduce this past-day story. Create an account to save your progress.
