Greek Β1 Speaking Exam: Describe and Compare Two Pictures

Use two fictional study scenes to build a short comparison in Greek. Start with visible details, add one similarity and one difference, then give a personal preference with a reason. This is independent speaking practice, not an official examination task or a prediction of your speaking level.

Look at both scenes

Two study scenes: on the left one woman uses a laptop beside a closed blue book; on the right three adults sit around a table with two open books and bookshelves behind them.
Original AI-generated teaching illustration: studying alone and studying together.

The left scene shows one person at a desk with a laptop. The right shows three people around a table with open books. The illustration does not identify their names, nationality, jobs or exact ages. Do not invent those details to fill your speaking time.

Organise the description

Στην αριστερή εικόνα…In the picture on the left…
Στη δεξιά εικόνα…In the picture on the right…
Και στις δύο εικόνες…In both pictures…
ενώwhereas / while, here introducing a contrast
Θα προτιμούσα… γιατί…I would prefer… because…

Read a possible comparison

In the left picture, a woman uses a laptop. In the right, three people sit around a table. Both pictures contain books. There is a closed book on the desk at the left, whereas there are two open books on the table at the right. This comparison selects a few relevant details instead of naming every object.

Check the visible evidence

  1. How many people appear on the left and on the right?
  2. Which scene contains a visible laptop?
  3. How many open books are on the table in the right scene?
  4. Can you identify the people’s names from the illustration?
Answers

1. One on the left and three on the right. 2. The left scene. 3. Two. 4. No. The image does not provide names.

Separate observation, inference and preference

Φαίνεται ότι συζητούν για τα βιβλία. Θα προτιμούσα να διαβάζω με άλλους, γιατί μου αρέσει να συζητώ.

It seems they are discussing the books. I would prefer studying with others because I like discussing things. The first sentence signals an interpretation; the picture does not give the words of their conversation. The second describes a personal preference, not a fact about which way of studying is best for everyone.

Speak from four cues

Use only these cues: left, right, similarity, preference. Cover the model and describe both scenes aloud. Add one contrast with ενώ. Ask a partner to follow up with Γιατί; — Why? — and give a reason instead of restarting your description. Alone, pause after the question and answer it aloud yourself.

Review and change the comparison

Check whether you mentioned both pictures, supported the contrast with visible details and distinguished your preference from a claim about the people. Repeat with a different comparison, such as the number of people or the equipment. You do not need a longer speech if the extra sentences only invent facts.
