Read a Greek Ferry Ticket: Departure, Destination, Time and Seat

A ticket contains different kinds of information: places, a date, a time and sometimes a seat reference. This simplified fictional ticket is a language exercise, not a valid booking or a real timetable. Read each label before interpreting its number. The example does not provide a vessel name, gate or arrival time.

Read the fictional ticket

Από: ΠειραιάςFrom: Piraeus
Προς: ΝάξοςTo: Naxos

Find the direction of travel

Από means from and προς means to or towards. Here the departure point is Πειραιάς and the destination is Νάξος. Do not reverse them when retelling the trip. Το λιμάνι means the port; το πλοίο means the ship; το εισιτήριο means the ticket. Learn these words with their articles so you can build a question, not only recognise a label.

Separate date, time and seat

Ημερομηνία labels the date. In this exercise, 18/06/2027 is 18 June 2027. Αναχώρηση labels departure: 09:30 means half past nine in the morning in this 24-hour example. Θέση labels the seat: 24 is not a time or a gate number. Read the label first when two numbers appear close together.

Ask a confirmation question

Αυτό είναι το πλοίο για τη Νάξο; asks “Is this the ship to Naxos?”. Τι ώρα φεύγει το πλοίο; asks “What time does the ship leave?”. Πού είναι η θέση μου; asks “Where is my seat?”. These questions request different information. Match the answer to the question instead of treating every reply as a direction.

Notice what is missing

Αναχώρηση is departure, not arrival. The example does not state how long the trip takes, when boarding starts or where to queue. You cannot infer those details from the departure time alone. Πού γίνεται η επιβίβαση; means “Where does boarding take place?”. It asks for a location; it does not specify an official boarding procedure.

Check the fields

  1. Where does the fictional trip start and end?
  2. What date appears on the ticket?
  3. Does 09:30 mean departure or arrival here?
  4. What does the number 24 identify?
See the answers

1. From Piraeus to Naxos. 2. 18 June 2027. 3. Departure. 4. The seat, not a gate or time.

Change two details

Copy the labels and change the fictional departure time to 14:15 and the seat to 31. Keep the destination unchanged. Answer Τι ώρα φεύγει το πλοίο; with Στις δύο και τέταρτο το μεσημέρι. Then ask Πού είναι η θέση μου; and explain which detail is still missing: a seat number alone does not describe the route to that seat.
