Practise Greek Pronunciation Alone: Record and Compare

Use three short recordings to compare a specific feature of your speech, not to judge whether you sound identical to the voice. You can use a recorder on your own device or practise aloud without saving anything. This page does not record you, upload your voice or give an automatic pronunciation score.

Listen before opening the words

Play each clip, repeat it once, and note which part sounds strongest. These are existing generated teaching recordings, reused from the beginner greeting exercise. Use them as a comparison model, not as a requirement to copy the speaker’s pitch or voice quality.

Check what you heard

  1. Does clip 1 say good morning or good night?
  2. In clip 2, is the stressed syllable νύ or χτα?
  3. Does clip 3 contain only Ευχαριστώ, or Ευχαριστώ πολύ?
  4. To compare word stress, must you reproduce the recording’s exact pitch and voice quality?
Words and answers

1. Καλημέρα! 2. Καληνύχτα! 3. Ευχαριστώ πολύ!

1. Good morning. 2. Νύ: κα-λη-νύ-χτα. 3. Ευχαριστώ πολύ — thank you very much. 4. No. Focus on the feature you are practising, rather than the identity of the voice.

Make one comparison at a time

Word stressIn Καλημέρα, check μέ; in Καληνύχτα, check νύ. Listen for prominence rather than simply making every syllable louder.
Complete wordsIn Ευχαριστώ πολύ, check that you include both words and do not drop part of either one.
Phrase completionFinish the phrase without restarting halfway through. Practise a shorter part first if needed, then return to the whole phrase.

Keep a before-and-after pair

Choose one clip. Say it once and, if you want, save that attempt locally. Listen to the model again, choose one difference you can describe, and make a second attempt. Write “I changed…” followed by that feature. Avoid a vague judgement such as “my Greek is bad”; it does not tell you what to practise.

If you cannot hear whether the stress is in the same place, mark it as uncertain rather than awarding yourself a score. A teacher or a competent speaker can help with a specific question such as “Is the stress clear on μέ?” Comparing recordings is useful practice, but it is not a diagnosis or a formal proficiency assessment.

Try the word in a new short exchange

Καλημέρα! Τι κάνεις; — Καλά, ευχαριστώ πολύ!

Good morning! How are you? — Fine, thank you very much! This printed exchange is a new practice prompt, not the transcript of the three separate clips. Say both turns, then change roles with a partner. Check whether you can keep the words complete when they appear in a sentence.
