A ticket can contain several numbers with completely different purposes. Before a performance, you need the time, the right room and your seat. This worksheet uses an invented theatre ticket to practise reading the labels before interpreting the numbers. It is not an announcement for a real event.
Read the ticket
Θέατρο — Εισιτήριο
Ημερομηνία: 12 Μαΐου
Ώρα: 20:30
Αίθουσα: 1
Σειρά: Γ
Θέση: 8
Ημερομηνία means date: 12 Μαΐου is 12 May. Ώρα gives the time, 20:30. Αίθουσα identifies room or auditorium 1. Σειρά identifies the row, here the Greek letter Γ, called γάμμα. Θέση identifies seat 8. Do not read 8 as the row number just because it is the largest single digit on the ticket.
From the entrance to the performance
Το θέατρο is the theatre and το εισιτήριο the ticket. Η παράσταση is the performance, η σκηνή the stage in this context, and το διάλειμμα the interval. Το πρόγραμμα is the programme. These words help you ask a more precise question: a question about your seat is different from a question about when the performance begins.
Ask where to sit
Υπάλληλος: Το εισιτήριό σας, παρακαλώ.
Θεατής: Ορίστε. Πού είναι η θέση μου;
Υπάλληλος: Η θέση σας είναι στη σειρά Γ.
Θεατής: Ευχαριστώ πολύ.
The staff member asks for the ticket. The spectator hands it over with Ορίστε and asks where their seat is. The reply identifies row Γ. Πού είναι η θέση μου; means where is my seat? The reply uses η θέση σας, your seat, addressing the visitor formally. The seat belongs to the same visitor even though the possessive changes with the speaker.
Find four details
- Does 20:30 indicate a time or a seat number?
- Which label identifies row Γ: Σειρά or Θέση?
- Which seat does the ticket specify: 1 or 8?
- Ask where your seat is: Πού είναι η ___ μου; Choose θέση or παράσταση.
Show the answers
1. 20:30 is the event time on this fictional ticket. 2. Σειρά. 3. Seat 8; 1 identifies the auditorium. 4. θέση.
Read a changed ticket
Imagine the row changes to Δ and the seat to 3. Say the new details aloud: σειρά δέλτα, θέση τρία. Then return to the original ticket and find the date without reading every other line. You are practising how to locate a particular detail, not just recite the whole ticket.
Review Greek possessives and practise another cultural visit with museum vocabulary.
