A summary represents what other people say before adding your own judgement. This C1-oriented exercise uses two invented contributions about digitising a municipal archive. They are practice texts, not quotations from historical figures or an official exam paper.
Read the two viewpoints
Build a faithful summary
Identify the shared proposal, then give each speaker’s emphasis. In A, access matters, but original documents retain value. In B, support depends on checking descriptions and acknowledging uncertainty. Do not turn a condition into a refusal. Neither speaker proposes publishing everything immediately.
Model summary
Notice the language
Και οι δύο identifies common ground; η πρώτη and η δεύτερη attribute ideas to the right text. Θέτει ως προϋπόθεση marks a condition, while αλλά preserves the difference. The model does not invent a cost, deadline or guaranteed result. Μπορεί expresses possibility: avoid replacing it with certainty.
Check your reading
- Does A propose replacing original documents?
- Is B opposed to any digital archive?
- Who explicitly proposes collecting user feedback?
- Can you write that both speakers demand immediate publication of everything?
Answers and reasons
1. No: A preserves the value of originals. 2. No: B supports gradual publication subject to checks and clear uncertainty. 3. A. Do not attribute this proposal to B. 4. No: both favour a gradual approach, for different reasons.
Write your own version
Without copying the model, write a short Greek summary for a reader who has not seen the texts. Include the shared direction, one distinctive priority from each text and B’s condition. Underline every attribution. Check that each claim can be traced to A or B. Then delete a sentence that merely repeats an idea; do not delete the qualification to make the text shorter.
